Our school is a Green Flag ‘Eco School’ and there are only 9 other schools in Peterborough with this award.
Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. As part of the programme we have looked at reducing water and electrical use in our school. We recycle all of our paper and card and following the principles of waste management by:
We have also created a fantastic allotment where our children grow vegetables and plants. Our wild life area has a small woodland and a pond area. Our pond is full of interesting things and the child go pond dipping to discover who lives in there.
We have seen:- Frogs, tadpoles, water flees, water skaters, water boatman, damselfly nymph, dragonfly nymph and pond snails, and have learnt about their lifecycle, seeing the dragonfly nymphs turn into ‘ Common darter’ dragonflies.
We have big plans to develop our allotment and wildlife area further, and have planted native hedges and trees, built bird and bat boxes, and we are planning to build a green house made of recycled drinks bottles.
